Platform China Contemporary Art Institute is honored to announce its exclusive representation of the artist Gong Jian and is pleased to present his inaugural solo exhibition at Platform China on September 16th, titled "Burning Life." This exhibition will spotlight Gong Jian's most recent creations from the past two years. Under his artistic gaze, the interplay and resonance between Gong Jian and this era have jointly woven vivid depictions of a vibrant life. “Most of Gong Jian's working time is occupied by a variety of information and fervent moments, and the information he once paid attention to quietly appears in his work without a sound, always bringing us some surprises. Most of the time, the reenactment of history is to expose the gaps between two or more moments, where we find the possibility to pause and contemplate. For Gong Jian, if sharing information and knowledge is like Prometheus stealing fire, then painting is like Sisyphus pushing a boulder. These paintings require us to dig deep, read carefully, and explore the mechanisms and metaphors he secretly embeds in every part and detail, as well as the 'chain of evidence' and the incomplete narrative they form. Narrative and form are the dual driving forces of Gong Jian's paintings, sometimes with the narrative serving the form, and other times with the form reconstructing the narrative. Despite the unprecedented challenges faced by this kind of painting, as well as all creative activities today, Gong Jian never believes that painting is outdated or on the verge of disappearing. Instead, he firmly believes that it can still unleash infinite possibilities.” By Lu Mingjun
