On the evening of October 5th, Sotheby's Hong Kong's modern and contemporary auctions took the lead. There were two special exhibitions including Sotheby's Modern Art Evening Sale and Modern & Contemporary Southeast Asian Art Evening Sale. Many outstanding works were displayed in a concentrated manner. A total of 36 lots were sold in the two auctions, with a record of HKD $762 million, and three pieces sold over 100 million. Sotheby's Hong Kong Modern Art Evening Sale

The Modern Art Evening Auction of Sotheby's Hong Kong is led by a series of works of internationally renowned Western and Asian artists. There are 26 lots in total, with a turnover of HKD$729 million, and three pieces sold over 100 million. Seven pieces sold over tens of millions, which are 61.6% above the estimated price.

The Highest Priced Work Comes From San Yu's Fleurs Dans Un Pot Bleu Et Blanc

The highest priced lot of the night came from San Yu's Fleurs Dans Un Pot Bleu Et Blanc. The pre-sale estimate was only HKD$50 million. The second highest-priced work in the field was Nu also by San Yu. The lot was collected by collector L0048 with a transaction price of HKD$168 million including commission fee. Nu not only embodies the exquisite Chinese landscape and the essence of Western nude paintings; and the Fleurs Dans Un Pot Bleu Et Blanc has a vigorous and powerful brushstroke, which is also a representative masterpiece of his black period.

That night, Fleurs Dans Un Pot Bleu Et Blanc triggered fierce competition on the scene. After starting the auction at HKD$38 million, it lasted 15 minutes after 32 bids, the collector L0014 finally obtained the work of HKD$187 million with commission fee included.

Wu Guanzhong’s Scenery Of Northern China is a vast and majestic view of the Northland. It is the largest privately-owned oil painting created by Wu Guanzhong before the "Reform And Opening Up" of China. "Snow Adopted After The Tune Of Chin Yuan Chun", the majestic scenery of the Northland, was vividly represented by the artist. The work was finally bought by the collector L0009 or HKD$151 million with a commission fee included.

Lalan 's Les Formes Sortent Du Bleu Et Du Vert (Diptych) Broke Her Personal Top1

Another exciting work that night came from Lalan’s Les Formes Sortent Du Bleu Et Du Vert (Diptych). The pre-sale estimate was HKD$45-65 million. In the end, collector 5005 bought the work with HKD$11.07 million including a commission fee. In this work, green and blue are blended into landscapes. The layers of paint overlapped thick and thin, forming a contrast between light and shadow, placing toughness and softness in the same position. This style has an important position in the history of Chinese painting.

Sotheby's Hong Kong-Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art Evening Sale

Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art Evening Sale of Sotheby's Hong Kong in this season has 15 lots in total, with a turnover of HKD $32,332,800. Among them, Sudjana Kerton's work Indonesian Village Life depicting rural life, won the highest price in the audience, and it was also a dark horse in this auction. This work was created in the early 1960s and is one of the early classics of the artist's "Country Life" series. This is a work after a theme that he reexamined later in his career after returning to Indonesia. It was purchased directly by the original collector from the artist when the artist was working in the United States. Since then, this work has been privately held. This is one of Sudjana Kerton’s most pioneering works on market. It was finally sold with HKD $8.04 million.
