The concept of overlapping has long been explored by contemporary artists at international level with the aim to shed light on the complexity of contemporary society and on our multifaceted existence. Since the emergence of Postmodernism, the challenging of absolute truths and universal narratives left the space to paradigm shifts and ever-changing perception of the world surrounding us. In the exhibition Layers, his first solo show at Parkview Green Art, the artist Guo Yaguan reinterprets through his unique language and practice the concept of layer, going beyond the visible and the material.

“重叠”的概念在字面及隐喻意义上与“并置”的概念联系起来：艺术家通过作品中不同材料的组合来表现“重叠”，但同时也通过一个复杂的参照和符号系统——来源于日常生活和艺术史。

Overlapping can be associated also to the idea of juxtaposition and can be intended both literally and metaphorically: Guo Yaguan indeed represents this concept through the combination of different materials in his works but also through a complex system of references and symbols stemming from both daily life and art history.
