ArtDepot is pleased to announce that we will present artist Hui Wei's solo "Joker Not Joking" at our Beijing 798 Space on September 2, 2023. The exhibition will exhibit 20 paintings, and simultaneously present 7 sculptures in the outdoor public space of Qixing East Street and in the gallery. The show presents various imaginations in the magical world of "art magician" Hui Wei, making viewers travel to a dreamland full of infinite possibilities.

Hui Wei hints at the exploration of the soul's duality in these works. His role as a magician makes him well-versed in the corresponding relationship between truths and falsehood, fiction and reality, which also allows him to integrate a magical world full of whimsy with symbolic images in his works.

In this secret world, quiet Timmy and energetic Tammy always go together like two complementary sides of someone, stepping into the unknown. This narrative and the confrontation between red and black in the frame constitute his thoughts on those double-sided emotions. For individuals, it seems that everyone has both sides like Timmy and Tammy, and the AB side of a soul is like the red and black on the card, always accompanying each other, and jointly building one's life adventure.

The 54-piece group work "Debris Dreams" in this exhibition will come in the unique form of a blind box collection. It collects 54 dreamful moments created by Hui Wei and presents different creative emotions such as happiness, loneliness, liveliness, and tranquillity in a relaxed and healing form. The 54 works will correspond to 54 random poker cards, and collectors will not know the works in their possession until the last moment. *Please follow for updates.
