KeYi Gallery is pleased to announce the launch of artist Xu Tanghao's solo exhibition "Unpredictable Moment" at Hefei Space on August 9th. This exhibition is the first solo collaboration between the artist and the gallery, and also the first personal exhibition of his career. It will focus on presenting more than ten new works he has created in the past three years. The extension will continue until September 24th.
The title of the exhibition, "Unpredictable Moment", is derived from the artist's sensitive perception of sudden pauses, dislocations and emotional fluctuations in daily life. These moments often occur in the most trivial scenes of urban life, yet they imply implications for the social rhythm, economic structure and individual circumstances. As a native of a new first-tier city, Xu Tanghao has witnessed the rapid transformation of this city over the past decade or so - skyscrapers standing in rows, elevated roads crisscrossing, and the rise of commercial centers. However, in the gaps between these tremendous changes, those unstandardized urban scenes have still been preserved: Outside high-end shopping malls, vendors enthusiastically hawking their products; in game arcades, ambitious snipers; pedestrians briefly stopping at high-speed railway stations... These everyday fragments overlooked by mainstream narratives all constitute the "unpredictable" spiritual pictures in his writings, and also respond to the subtle and complex relationship between the individual and the whole in contemporary urban life.
Xu Tanghao's creations focus on those people and things in daily life that are easily overlooked, especially paying attention to those established social identities that can temporarily "deviate" people (such as consumers, workers, and citizens). His works attempt to break the conventional perception of identity, return to the essence of things or events, and achieve a "sanctified" expression of the mundane.
