Preface

Mr. Nobuo Sekine is the founder and representative artist of Mono-ha. Mono-ha art (Mono-ha, ものPA) is the only Asian art school born in the 1960s that has been written into the history of Western modern and contemporary art. "Mono-ha" uses natural materials such as wood, stone, earth, and iron as its main features. While focusing on the relationship between objects, space is also considered as one of the factors in the work. By simplifying the complex expression technique, it reveals the way of existence of the natural world, thereby guiding people to re-understand the world, thereby expressing the perception methods of Eastern philosophy and Japanese Zen Buddhism. To give meaning to the virtual phase, we pay more attention to the blankness and silence in it than to the state and concrete sound of the real phase. Its modeling concept is based on the relationship between the two to form works, and emphasizes the existence of a "relationship" through them.

"Phase - Earth" created by Nobuo Sekine in 1968 is widely considered to be the origin of the Mono-ha movement and one of the most representative Japanese art creations at the time. It also influenced the future development of earth, installation and minimalist art in Asia. has a significant and far-reaching impact. In this exhibition, we will present to you a series of Mr. Sekine Nobuo’s most representative sculptures from the 1970s to the 1990s.
