Auction introduction: Sotheby's is delighted to be the first to offer The Glenturret 50 Year Old in Lalique; bottle #1 of the oldest whisky ever to be released from this distillery. While The Glenturret may be the oldest operating distillery in Scotland, its recent acquisition by none other than French Crystal experts Lalique, has breathed new life into this historic monument of the Scotch Whisky industry. Since its new ownership, The Glenturret has appointed Bob Dalgarno (previously Master Distiller at The Macallan) to head up its distillation and blending, and have achieved the momentous feat of becoming the first distillery in Scotland to receive the coveted Michelin star under the expertise of their head chef Mark Donald, who was previously executive chef of The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. In celebration of this launch, we have taken it upon ourselves to acknowledge the good work that Lalique have done for the Scotch whisky industry, by sourcing whiskies from private collections across the world that have been bottled in Lalique Crystal decanters. We now present the first whisky auction in history to exclusively offer Scotch in Lalique.
