Auction introduction: 拍賣簡介 Old Masters Part II returns this July with something for every collector. The sale will offer an even greater variety of media and eras than previous seasons, with paintings, drawings, watercolours and sculpture hailing from every major Western School and at a broad range of price points. The Old Master paintings group begins with 14th Century Italian gold grounds and ends with a selection of works from canonical artists of the British school, including Thomas Gainsborough, Sir Joshua Reynolds, George Romney and John Constable. Of particular note are an intriguing canvas from the circle of the famed Diego Velázquez and an expressive folding triptych by Ambrosius Benson. A wide selection of lots will be sold without reserve, as indicated on our sale page, with estimates starting at around £1,000. Sculpture highlights include an extremely rare and arresting alabaster standing female saint, possibly Saint Etheldreda, dating to the second half of the 15th Century. A magnificent Limoges bishop’s crozier, intricately enamelled and dating to the second quarter of the 13th Century, is offered from the distinguished collection of Sam Josefowitz. A small group of delicate Renaissance rings hail from the Bayreuth Collection. The sale will also feature an impressive offering of Old Master Drawings, British drawings & watercolours, and 19thCentury paintings. These are led by a characteristically ethereal Swiss watercolour by Turner, looking towards Lake Thun, alongside a strong selection from leading British watercolourists including Edward Lear, Samuel Palmer, David Roberts and William Turner of Oxford.
