Auction introduction: Fields of Vision: The Private Collection of Artists Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason will feature Modern, Post-War and Contemporary paintings, works on paper, prints and sculptures, which reflect the many friendships the couple developed with other artists in their lifetimes. This dynamic collection is characterized by the inquisitive and nurturing natures of Mason and Kahn who, outside their own studio practices, acquired meaningful works of art by their peers and artists they deeply admired. Proceeds will benefit the Wolf Kahn | Emily Mason Foundation and the Emily Mason | Alice Trumbull Mason Foundation, preserving their artistic vision through exhibitions, research, and philanthropy. Accompanying the 18 May live auction Fields of Vision: The Private Collection of Artists Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason, the online sale is led by a diverse selection of prints ranging from vibrant abstractions by Joan Miró, who had a studio next door to Mason’s mother Alice Trumbull Mason, to ten etchings by Giorgio Morandi, who Kahn greatly admired for his ability to create a cohesive composition greater than the sum of its parts. Prints by Pablo Picasso and Mary Cassatt in the auction hung beside still-life paintings by Charles Demuth and Robert Kulicke on what Mason referred to as her “wall of friends” in her Chelsea studio loft, while Kahn’s workspaces in New York and Vermont were populated by artists spanning from Georges Braque to Richard Diebenkorn. Highlights of the online sale will be on view in New York alongside the Fields of Vision live auction from 15-17 May 2021. Please contact us to schedule an appointment for your visit.
