Auction introduction: The Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings auction presents an extraordinary selection from esteemed private collections worldwide, including Lin Fengmian paintings from the Van Roosbroek Family Collection, the Collection of Prof. L. Y. Chiu, former Dean of Arts Faculty, HKU, the M K Lau Collection, the Foh Collection from Singapore, and important Xu Beihong paintings formerly from the Collection of Loh Cheng Chuan in Penang. Part of the artworks from the special exhibition From Protégé to Master – The Chinese Painting Collection of Harold Wong held in May 2024 will also be offered in the sale. On 28 November, the auction offers nearly 200 notable artworks, with highlights by Wu Guanzhong including Sunrise over Guilin from an important and distinguished European noble family and Three Friends in Company in Wintry Times, and masterpieces by Zhang Daqian including Portrait of Bodhisattva from the Songde Tang Collection, as well as Scholar by a Lush Tree. These works illustrate the diversity of Chinese paintings in the 20th century.
