Auction introduction: Sotheby’s is honoured to announce Past/Forward, a unique journey through 20th-century art. Part I of the sale will take place live on 26 October in Paris, whilst Part II will be online and open for bidding from 20–29 October. This collection reflects the passion and vision of its collector, covering almost a century of Modern and Contemporary Art. The sale features important works by the most influential European artists of the era, from Léger, Picasso, Masson and Tanguy, to masterpieces by Soulages, Dubuffet, Hundertwasser and Hantaï. The vision and scope of Past / Forward offers Sotheby’s clients a unique opportunity to acquire works that have been thoughtfully assembled over the years, and coheres satisfyingly into a compelling and entrancing body of 20th-century art. On Wednesday 20 October the exhibition will close exceptionally at 4 pm, but will remain visible by appointment from 4 to 6 pm.
