Auction introduction: Christie’s Modern American Art auction on 16 April will present a strong selection of early 20th‑century paintings, drawings and sculpture by masters of the Stieglitz Circle, Regionalism, Illustration and beyond. The sale features works by leading artists of the period including Georgia O’Keeffe, Milton Avery and N. C. Wyeth, together with rare examples by Hale Woodruff and Archibald Motley, among others. Headlining the auction are several extraordinary collections, including The Collection of Toto & Jim Fisher, led by icons of the Precisionist movement Charles Sheeler and Ralston Crawford. The McCann Collection of American Illustration represents an exceptional group of Saturday Evening Post covers and more, led by Norman Rockwell, J. C. Leyendecker and others. Rare works of Magic Realism are offered from Mystery & Magic: An Important Greenwich Village Collection, as well as from Companions: A Collection of Works by Paul Cadmus. The sale exhibition will open at Rockefeller Center on Friday, 10 April as part of the marquee Modern New York sale week.
