Auction introduction: Our next online Contemporary Art Day Auction will feature a selection of works by the most important artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Amongst the leading artists of the sale, we find Bernard Frize, Jean Degottex and Sam Francis. The artists of the New School of Paris will be honoured with works by André Lanskoy and a painting by Serge Poliakoff, which has remained in the same collection since its acquisition in 1964. Kinetic art will be present with pieces by Soto and Tomasello and the sculptural movement will also be highlighted with a mobile by Hiquily. A selection of works on paper by Henri Michaux and the Swiss artist Niele Toroni will follow. The Contemporary Art Day Auction will also feature rediscoveries of works that have been held in the same collections for decades. Works on paper from the 1950s by Martin Barré and oils on canvas by André Marfaing will be on sale. An important painting by Gérard Garouste from 1984 will be at the heart of the sale. The source of life emerges in the composition. This delicate figurative work is characteristic of the artist's dreamlike world. Following the major retrospective dedicated to him at the Centre Pompidou in 2022, Sotheby's Paris is delighted to present this painting at auction.
