Auction introduction: This year the online sale of paintings, drawings and sculptures will feature a selection of works from a number of prestigious and varied collections, with works ranging from the 16th to the 20th century. The sale includes works from the collection of HRH Princess Maria Pia of Savoy, featuring a spectacular view of Venice by Grubacs and a portrait of her father, King Umberto II of Italy, by the brilliant portraitist Philip de László.
Powerful images such as an imaginary interior by the mysterious painter known as the Monogrammist PW and a delicate copper depicting butterflies in a landscape by van Kessel the Elder will be among the selection of Northern works. The French school is exceptionally well represented, with paintings by Hubert Robert, Hippolyte Flandrin and Rosa Bonheur.
Sculpture and intricate goldwork are well represented by a large selection of German tankards from a private European collection.
