Auction introduction: This collection showcases an array of works of art, ranging from late Shang Dynasty to the Eastern Zhou period, including bronze ritual vessels, utilitarian objects, gold and silver wares, as well as Tang sancai wares. Many of these treasures hail from the Laiyantang collection or have previously been exhibited at the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore.
The era prior to the Qin Dynasty represents the zenith of Chinese metal casting, while the Tang Dynasty signifies an unparalleled peak in the evolution of Chinese sculptural art, and these two artistic developments were fundamentally shaped by the transformation of Chinese rituals, which is gracefully unveiled by the collection. This group offers glimpses into the sophisticated culture of wine appreciation in late Shang Dynasty, the elaborate agrarian rituals of the Western Zhou, the decline of such rituals during the Eastern Zhou, and the luxurious practices surrounding death from the Western Han to the Tang Dynasty.
