Auction introduction: Sotheby’s Hong Kong is pleased to announce its first live auction of Important Watches in 2021, presenting an exciting selection of modern and vintage timepieces of rare and iconic designs. Highlighting in the event will be a highly important Rolex, possibly unique platinum Zenith Daytona fitted with Tiffany-blue lacquer stella dial. This watch is a reference 16516, which is the same as the other two known platinum Zenith Daytona. Only a handful of platinum Zenith Daytonas fitted with unique dial were made, and just two examples had ever been offered at auction by Sotheby’s Hong Kong, making it one of the rarest and most coveted watches on the market. Last year, a platinum Zenith Daytona featuring a lapis lazuli stone dial set the world record as the most expensive automatic Rolex Daytona sold when it went under the hammer for 25.4 million HKD ($3.27 million). The rare offering at the upcoming April sale will certainly make for another thrilling auction, and this extraordinary timepiece will also be accompanied by a broad selection of collectible watches that are appealing both to vintage and contemporary collectors.
