Auction introduction: Christie’s Amsterdam is pleased to present The Curator’s Eye: The Collection of Professor Dr Karin von Maur. A historian, curator and one of the most important cultural voices of her generation, Karin von Maur played a pivotal role in shaping the art scene of her native Germany. As deputy director of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Prof Dr von Maur transformed public knowledge and appreciation of classical modernism and twentieth-century German art. Notably, she oversaw the archive of Oskar Schlemmer, becoming an internationally-renowned expert on his oeuvre and authoring his catalogue raisonné in 1979. Von Maur remains a leading connoisseur in her field, and her work continues to inform scholarly understanding of the artists she championed. The Curator’s Eye: The Collection of Professor Dr Karin von Maur comprises works by German artists – from Schlemmer, Peter Roehr and Joseph Beuys to Hannah Höch and Daniel Richter – alongside international figures such as Alighiero Boetti, Alexander Calder and Roman Opałka. Rich in breadth and deep in scope, each work bears witness to the eye for detail, quality and significance that drove every aspect of Prof Dr von Maur’s scholarly activities. The online sale will take place between 11-25 May 2021. Highlights from the sale are on view alongside the Post-War & Contemporary Art Amsterdam sale, at Christie’s Amsterdam office from Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm, by appointment only (bookings can be made by emailing RGoudsbloem@christies.com). © 2021 Daniel Richter / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York / VG Bild-Kunst, Germany
