Auction introduction: Spanning seven centuries of European art, our traditional June sale in Paris offers a very beautiful array of Old Master and 19th century paintings and drawings, sculpture and objects d’art. Highlights of the sale are the many previously unpublished and rediscovered works by French and Italian artists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, such as Viviano Codazzi, Bartolommeo Bettera, Giovanni Martinelli, Jean-Bernard Restout and Gabriel de Saint-Aubin, followed by wonderful 19th century paintings and drawings by such artists as Victor Hugo, Harpignies and Galien Laloue. The sale features a strong group of Flemish and French Haute Époque sculptures carved in wood, as well as Medieval and Indo-Portuguese ivories. Among the bronzes, Italy is represented by Renaissance artists Severo da Ravenna and Guglielmo della Porta while France is highlighted by artists Barthélémy Prieur and casts done after the model by Michel Anguier. Several works in marble and terracotta complete this selection of French 18th century sculpture.
