Auction introduction: Sotheby’s Hong Kong Modern Art Sales in the first half of 2021 achieved a spectacular result of HK$1.3 billion, a record-high half-yearly total in Sotheby’s history in Asia. In June, Sotheby’s announced that the celebrated auteur Wong Kar Wai will bring his avant-garde aesthetics to Modern Art Sales this October, garnering every global collector’s earnest attention. This Autumn, Sotheby’s Hong Kong will feature yet another striking lineup of Asian, European, modern and post-war masterpieces, among which are Pablo Picasso’s Femme Accroupie, the loving portrait for his second wife and muse Jacqueline, Van Gogh’s Nature morte: vase aux glaieuls, the first painting by the artist to ever appear at any auctions in Asia, Zao Wou-Ki’s 30.09.65, a classic from the Hurricane Period, and Chu Teh-Chun’s Sans titre, the masterpiece in response to the wave of global abstract art. Together with works by Wassily Kandinsky, Lin Fengmian, Bernard Buffet, Georges Mathieu, Fernando Zobel and Mai Trung Thu, these works will form the strongest ensemble of this season.
