Auction introduction: This March Christie’s presents the 20th Century Day Sale, offering a tight selection of works by celebrated artists encapsulating the alchemical exchange across the East and West in the history of modern art.
Headlining the sale is Zao Wou-ki's La course de chevaux (Horse Racing) (1952) from his Klee Period, Chu Teh-chun’s abstract masterpiece No. 269 (1968), Claude Lalanne’s sculpture Pomme Moyenne (Verte) (2006) and a group of six works on paper by Marc Chagall directly from the artist’s estate. Other highlights include iconic works by stellar Asian modern artists Kazuo Shiraga, Lee Ufan, Lalan and Ju Ming alongside Western masters Pablo Picasso, Bernard Buffet and Eileen Agar.
The sale also features paintings by prominent artists from Southeast Asia, including Cheong Soo Pieng, Nguyen Nam Son, Mai Trung Thu, Le Pho and Vu Cao Dam.
