Auction introduction: Sotheby's Hong Kong is honoured to celebrate our 50th anniversary in Asia with an exceptional collection of horological masterpieces this Spring. From modern complications to independent masterpieces, and from vintage chronographs to sought after sports watches, the curation features an assortment of timepieces that will certainly captivate all collectors. Among the sale are some of the most significant minute repeaters from Patek Philippe, led by the highly complicated reference 5016 incorporating the perpetual calendar and the tourbillon, bringing together the three most exquisite watch complications into one. References not to be overlooked are the perpetual calendar 5074, a possibly unique 5078 and the enamel tourbillon 3939, all chiming with exquisite tone, destined to pull the heartstrings of any listener. The independent watch offerings are led by an early pink gold Simplicity from Philippe Dufour - the greatest living watchmaking legend. Other remarkable designs including Richard Mille's skeletonised architecture, F. P. Journe's incredible innovation, and Greubel Forsey's contemporary watchmaking also make key highlights to the sale. Guiding collectors through the evolution of Rolex’s Daytona, from the "Pre-Daytona" 6238, the “Musketeer” dial 6239 and to the yellow gold "Paul Newman" 6241, these vintage chronographs are preserved in attractive condition and exude a timeless aura, appealing to the astute eyes of the connoisseur. The auction will be held on April 5th at the Hong Kong Convention Centre, with the preview starting on April 1st. An opportunity of extraordinary timepieces not to be missed, please do not hesitate to contact us for further enquiries including high resolution images and condition reports.
