Auction introduction: Our Tableaux et Dessins 1400-1900 sale features nearly one hundred works of art spanning across 600 years of art history, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, from Italy to the Netherlands, through Spain, Flanders, Germany and France.
Several unpublished lots will be presented, including an important rediscovery the Adam et Eve by Frans Floris. A basket of peaches by Panfilo Nuvolone, also unpublished and in good condition, is a perfect example of the Italian still life of the early 16th century. A group of four rediscovered panels of the Master of the Karlsruhe Hohenlandenberg Altarpiece are also amongst the important lots of the sale.
A beautiful Virgin and Child, or La Virgén del Sombrero, by Luis de Morales and his Studio, proudly represents the Spanish school of the 16th century.
The French school will be brought to the forefront, with works by Boucher, Fragonard, Duplessis, Suvée and Boilly. A charming portrait of the Comte d'Echauz by Nanine Vallain completes this selection, with a superb example of a work executed by a female artist.
The section devoted to the 19th century is particularly rich thanks to a selection of paintings from the collection of Mr and Mrs Robert Schmit, including a remarkable landscape sketch by Delacroix. Other artists with Symbolist influences are also represented, such as Eugène Carrière, Nicolas Kalmakov and Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer.
