Auction introduction: Victor Vee Shek Shaw (1935-2020) originally from Ningbo, Zhejiang, and a member of the legendary Shaw family in Hong Kong, is a lifelong collector of Chinese art who was renowned not only for his discerning eye but also his philanthropic pursuits. Shaw assembled his jade collection since his younger age since 1960s. With his five decades of acquisition and experience, the collection is a true reflection of his inner spirit and his life’s work. The third part of this special collection features jade jewelries collected by Mr. Shaw, including hairpins, earrings, and other head ornaments, as well as necklaces, pendants, bracelets, and other wearable adornments. The items span from the Neolithic period to the Shang, Zhou, Tang, Song, Ming and late Qing dynasties. The evolution of jade ornaments reflects the changes in Chinese clothing and accessories and serves as evidence of 5,000 years of civilization. Jade endures, and though the fashion of jade jewelries has shifted through millennia, they still possess a fresh appeal today.
