Auction introduction: Effective May 20th, 2024, Sotheby's has lowered its Buyer's Premium rates and removed Overhead Premium for all categories excluding Wine & Spirits. Sotheby's Overhead Premium will only be charged for Wine & Spirits lots. Please refer to the Conditions of Business located on the relevant sale page for the updated rates. Our Tableaux et Dessins 1400-1900 sale brings together over one hundred works of art, covering 500 years of art history, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, from Italy to the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium. The sale will start with a fine and important group of Flemish and Dutch primitives, including works from the workshop of Bouts, the workshop of Joos van Cleve and a painting attributed to Jacques Daret. The Grand Siècle will then be in honor, with an important painting by Sébastien Bourdon, as well as works by Francesco Albani. The sale will continue with 18th century majestic Italian views by Giovanni Paolo Panini and Michele Marieschi, as well as a seductive, rediscovered portrait of the musician Geminiani by François Boucher. An important work by Corot will open the 19th century section, and we will pursue with two important studies by Delacroix, as well as one of the last portraits realized by Carpeaux, representing Dr. Flaubert. Our sale will then highlight the richness of the first half of the 20th century in Europe, with poetic paintings by Santiago Rusiñol, a phantasmagorical composition by the Italian Mussino, and major and spectacular works by the Belgians Anto Carte and Emile Fabry. The sale will also feature a group of Symbolist works from an important private collection. Centred around the artistic personality of Georges de Feure, this collection includes some sixty fin de siècle works by artists such as Marguerite Burnat-Provins, Gustav-Adolf Mossa, Achille Laugé, Armand Point, Henri Martin, Maurice Denis, … The works will be on view in our galleries by appointment from June 10th, then exhibited from June 15 to 18 included (see Exhibition times).
