Auction introduction: This spring, the Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art auction present a curated selection of nearly one hundred exceptional Chinese ceramics and works of art, spanning the Shang to the Qing dynasty, demonstrating the scope and richness of Chinese art. Leading the sale is a magnificent and exceedingly rare pair of gilt-bronze luohan figures from the early Ming dynasty. Splendidly cast and grand in presence, these imposing figures represent the pinnacle of early Ming Buddhist sculpture. A further highlight is a jade tiger from the Eastern Han dynasty, animatedly carved with wings and a lively expression – a treasure that has transcended time. Also among the highlights is a Sui-dynasty white-glazed jar and a cover, celebrated for its luminous glaze and elegant form—a rare exemplar of early white porcelain. The sale also features a distinguished array of works, including archaic bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, Tang sancai wares, Song ceramics from various celebrated kilns, imperial porcelains of the Ming and Qing dynasties, jade carvings, scholar’s objects, and Buddhist sculptures—many with illustrious provenances and exhibition history. Special Notice From June 2025, EU regulations 2019/880 and 2021/1079 introduce new licensing requirements and regulations relating to the import of cultural goods into the EU. We recommend clients check ahead of the sale whether the lot they wish to purchase and its import into the EU could be impacted by the regulations.
