Auction introduction: On the 6th of June, Christie's has the honor of highlighting the remarkably innovative nature of the Renault collection’s adventure, which began in 1967. Indeed, that year, the automotive group launched a venture that was unprecedented in France at the time: bringing contemporary art and artists into the company with the aim of fostering a dialogue between these two mutually enriching worlds. The proceeds from the 33 works in the collection, conceived by some of the leading figures on the art scene during the second half of the 20th century — Robert Rauschenberg, Sam Francis, Jean Dubuffet, Victor Vasarely, Niki de Saint Phalle, Pierre Alechinsky and Jean Fautrier, among others ­—will be donated to Renault's newly-created endowment fund for art and culture.
