Auction introduction: The Christie’s Print Department is pleased to present a sale of 10 lots from Andy Warhol’s Myths series. Warhol’s set of portraits from 1981 depicts well-known figures from both traditional folklore and 20th-century film. The Myths are among Warhol’s most beloved later images, including Dracula, Howdy Doody, Mammy, Mickey Mouse, Santa Claus, Superman, The Star, The Witch, Uncle Sam and a self-portrait of Warhol himself.
‘Warhol’s Myths reside in the funny papers, in movies and ads. And in the mirror. Warhol nurtures the nonlife, the un-death of glamour.’
