Auction introduction: Sotheby's is honored to invite Frédéric Malle to curate Important Design sale. The perfume editor has shared his choices through the creations of the designers featured in the sale. Major works of historic and prestigious provenance will be showcased, including the console by Eileen Gray from the Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles collection, and the silver box by Jean Goulden created for his wife. The sale features important pieces by the great designers of the 20th century: Jean Dunand, Jean-Michel Frank, Alberto Giacometti, Eugène Printz, Jules Leleu, Diego Giacometti, Jean Prouvé, Louis Majorelle, Alexandre Noll, Emmanuel Fremiet, Georges Jouve and Maurice Marinot. It will also highlight some of the great names in contemporary design: Philippe Starck, Hervé Van der Straeten, Charles Trevelyan, Mattia Bonetti, Hubert le Gall, Studio Drift, Wendell Castel, Ettore Sottsass and Ron Arad. Finally, this season will be the opportunity to celebrate women designers, with works by Ingrid Donat, Charlotte Perriand, Claude Lalanne, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Maria Pergay, Zaha Hadid and, of course, Eileen Gray.
