Auction introduction: Featuring works by Asian masters bridging the East and the West and their prominent contemporaries in Europe, the 20th Century Art Day sale traces how modern art has traversed time and borders. The sale is led by an extremely rare double-sided painting by Sanyu from the 1930s, fresh to the market and in excellent condition. Alongside iconic works by Wu Guanzhong and Chu Teh-chun, the sale offers a unique group of paintings by Zao Wou-ki, including a work from the collection of the artist's daughter, Madame Sin-May Zao. Powerful works by Gerhard Richter and Bernard Buffet are presented in juxtaposition with serene pictures by Fernando Zóbel and Lee Ufan. The sale also features paintings and works on paper by prominent artists from Southeast Asia. Remarkable paintings on silk, canvas, and lacquer by Vietnamese masters, including Mai Trung Thu, Le Pho, Vu Cao Dam, Le Quoc Loc, Pham Hau and Alix Aymé will be presented with an exciting lineup of works by Filipino artists such as Anita Magsaysay-Ho, Fernando Cueto Amorsolo, Cesar Legaspi, Indonesian artists led by Affandi, Lee Man Fong, Hendra Gunawan, Srihadi Soedarsono and Singaporean pioneer artists Liu Kang, Chen Chong Swee, Cheong Soo Pieng and Chen Wen Hsi. Further highlights include a group of important Japanese Modern paintings from the collection of Gerald Fineberg and a group of modern Burmese paintings from a private Asian collection. This eclectic ensemble brings forth a remarkable opportunity to acquire exceptional artwork for any distinguished collector’s taste.
