Auction introduction: Sotheby's Contemporary Day Auction is pleased to present an extraordinary selection of significant works by coveted Western and Asian Contemporary artists this spring. As a major curatorial highlight to coincide with Yayoi Kusama's comprehensive retrospective at the M+ Museum that has set Hong Kong ablaze, the Day Auction has lined up some of her most iconic and archetypal works. Tracing the artist's career from the early years in New York City to the turn of the millennium in Japan, an exceptional and exceedingly rare work on paper from 1955 will be shown alongside quintessential examples of Kusama's Infinity Nets and Pumpkin series. The Day Auction will also offer works by Yoshitomo Nara cherry-picked to include a variety of mediums, ranging from his large sculptural pieces to spontaneous creations on readymades, featuring his celebrated wide-eyed girls and puppy dog heads, all of the artist's most sought-after motifs nonetheless. Honouring our rich and successful history of presenting top-notch Chinese contemporary art in Hong Kong, we are also thrilled to be bringing collectors' attention to a remarkable selection of works by some of China's most important contemporary artists, including leading examples of works by Zeng Fanzhi, Ding Yi and Peng Wei. So please stay tuned for what is set to be one of the most electrifying Day Sales as we celebrate Sotheby's 50th Anniversary in Asia.
