Auction introduction: This year, as part of Sotheby’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in Asia, Sotheby’s Modern and Contemporary Auction returns to Singapore on 2 July 2023. In August 2022, Sotheby’s made a triumphant return to Singapore, hosting the first live auction in the island city-state in 15 years. The sale was a smashing success, surpassing pre-sale expectations, breaking new artist records and setting a record high for Sotheby’s Singapore. The auction is a major cross-category sale, which will focus on artists practicing in the 20th and 21st century, and exemplifies Sotheby's commitment to nurturing dialogues about art in the community across Asia. The sale includes a grouping of fresh-to-market works by celebrated female artists such as Georgette Chen, Christine Ay Tjoe, Jane Lee, Jennifer Guidi and Kei Imazu, alongside other Contemporary stars such as Liu Ye, Fernando Botero, Yayoi Kusama, KAWS, Javier Calleja. Some Modern highlights of the sale include Le Pho’s Jeune fille a la fleur, Wu Guanzhong’s Old pier at Guazhou, and a highly important masterpiece by Liu Kang.
