Auction introduction: Picasso Ceramics returns for Christie’s 20th/21st Century Art auction series this November, with a wide ranging selection of vivid and innovative ceramics by the modern icon.
Pablo Picasso’s interest in the ceramic medium, sparked by his move to the South of France in 1946, blossomed into a true passion that resulted in a 25-year-long collaboration with Georges and Suzanne Ramié, the founders of the renowned Atelier Madoura. This fruitful union brought forth over 600 different editioned designs of all shapes, styles and sizes, alongside many more important unique works.
Inspired by tradition and modernity alike, these ceramics represent one of Picasso’s most experimental mediums of creation.
