Auction introduction: This January’s Master Paintings and Sculpture Part II live sale offers works dating from the 12th to the 19th centuries. It includes several choice early Italian paintings; rediscovered works by Sodoma, Giandomenico Tiepolo and Giovanni Giorgio Lascaris, called Pyrgoteles; and important French academic eighteenth- and nineteenth-century terracotta sketches for life-size marble statues. A selection of elegant view paintings and evocative still lifes by Willem Claesz. Heda, Cornelis de Heem, and Frans Snijders are among other highlights. The auction additionally features property from two distinguished collections: a group of Dutch paintings formerly in the collection of eminent art historian Seymour Slive and a group of Renaissance and Baroque gold-mounted hardstone vessels from the Guennol collection.
