Auction introduction: Sotheby's is pleased to present the collection of ancient Chinese jades from Dr. Frank Chan, the owner of Xianquxuan. Dr. Chan, originally from Jinjiang, Fujian, comes from a family that immigrated to the Philippines in the early years, with businesses spread across Southeast Asia. Dr. Chan himself settled in Hong Kong and developed a profound love for Chinese art, exploring a wide range of genres from scholar objects and stone carvings to calligraphy and painting.
During his tenure as Chairman of the Min Chiu Society in Hong Kong, he prepared "The radiant Ming, 1368-1644 : through the Min Chiu Society Collection," which is the most comprehensive exhibition of Ming Dynasty cultural relics in the history of Hong Kong.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Sotheby's in Hong Kong, Xianquxuan is releasing its collection of ancient Chinese jades, which spans from the Neolithic period, through the Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, and Ming Dynasties, all purchased from renowned antique dealers in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. Notably, the majority of this group will be offered with no reserve.
