Auction introduction: Christie’s Design is honored to present Tiffany Masterworks from the Garden Museum: A Private Collection on Friday 10 June. Starting in the early 1990s and in less than 15 years, Mr. Horiuchi assembled one of the greatest collections of Tiffany ever amassed. This ensemble, encyclopedic in nature, comprises the best of every artistic and decorative medium produced by Tiffany Studios and Louis Comfort Tiffany, with works of historical importance and prestigious provenances. Highlights of the auction include an Important ‘Wisteria’ Transom Window from Louis C. Tiffany’s Long Island estate, the acclaimed Laurelton Hall, the Important and Rare ‘Hanging Head Dragonfly’ Chandelier with its exceptional blue rippled glass background, the iconic ‘Peacock’ Window , recently exhibited in A Radiant Light: The Artistry of Louis C. Tiffany at SFO Museum, in San Francisco, and the triptych ‘Clematis’ Skylights from Harvey S. Firestone’s commission for his house in Akron, Ohio, circa 1915. Major lamps to be presented in this collection include the spectacular ‘Yellow Rose’ floor lamp, a rare ‘Dragonfly and Water Flowers’ table lamp on mosaic base, formerly in the Collection of Barbra Streisand, and the superb ‘Elaborate Grape’ table lamp. Tiffany’s work as a painter is represented by watercolors such as ‘Roccabruna’ and ‘Double Staircase at Chateau de Blois’, which also harken back to the renowned Laurelton Hall. Important furniture designs for the Kimball Manor, Rochester, New York, and for the Kemp Residence on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan will also be on offer, as well as memorabilia from the Tiffany Studios workshop, including original shade forms and worker’s tools.
