Auction introduction: Spanning seven centuries of European art, our Paris June sale will offer a wonderful ensemble of Old Master and 19th Century Paintings, European Sculpture & Works of Art and Old Master Drawings. Important early 16th-century Italian paintings are joined by major French 18th-century works by artists such as Nicolas de Largillierre, Lacroix de Marseille and Hubert Robert, as well as stunning images from the 19th century by Lecomte du Noüy, Corot and Courbet. Amongst the European Sculpture highlights is a fine ensemble of French 17th- and 18th-century bronzes from a prestigious French private collection illustrating the famous series of Gods and Goddesses, designed in 1652 by Michel Anguier for the jeweler Montarsis : his famous Neptune agité, cast in 1670-80; Pluton mélancholique, (1670-80); Mars quittant ses armes, as well as an exceptional allegorical female figure of Air by Etienne Le Hongre, circa 1685, from the collection of the Russian count Pytor Kochubey.
