Auction introduction: The Modern and Contemporary Art Sale this season is designed with a heavy focus on Chinese modern and contemporary artists, with the launch of the most complete Chinese contemporary artist profile in the Hong Kong market this year. Leading the sale will be Chen Yifei's Waiting for the Moon in the Western Chamber, which is a rare early work from Chen’s Old Dream on the Sea series. This classic aesthetic embraces a poetic nostalgia, depicting the unique cultural scene of Shanghai in the Republican era. The Sun is the largest piece from Liu Kuo-Sung’s iconic "Space Series" that has emerged in the art market in recent years. Liu Kuo-Sung painted with wide brushstrokes and incorporated the “stripped tendons, peeled skin” technique. This traditional Chinese technique in combination with Western abstraction matches Liu Kuo-Sung's reputation as the father of modern Chinese ink painting. Another masterpiece that will be gracing the sales is The Butcher (5) by Zhang Enli. Zhang’s passion for observing the ordinary people around him in their daily lives captures the turbulent social landscape of the economic reform era on canvas, which is invaluable to the advancement of Chinese society. Rooted in the fertile soil of Chinese society, artists featured in this sale, leveraged deep and keen insights, recorded this era for us, and most importantly, painted the impressive Chinese contemporary development for the world.
