Auction introduction: On 13 November, Sotheby’s Geneva is proud to present its first dedicated Royal and Noble Jewels Sale, featuring some of the most spectacular and historically significant jewels with various illustrious Royal and aristocratic provenances, continuing the legacy of the Single Owner Sales of the Jewels of the Bourbon Parma family and ‘Vienna 1900: An Imperial and Royal Collection’. The sale is led by a Rare and Highly Important 18th Century jewel formerly in the Collection of the Marquesses of Anglesey, and further includes jewels with remarkable provenances such as Countess Mona Bismarck, King Umberto II of Italy, the Ducal House of Bavaria and the Princely Thurn und Taxis family. ‘A Tsar’s Treasure: Ferdinand of Bulgaria (1861-1948)’ constitutes the first session of the sale and this is a continuation of the story which began with the highly successful Single Owner Sale ‘Vienna 1900: An Imperial and Royal Collection’. This collection was united by Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria and his family and the Tsar’s influence is particularly strongly felt in items such as the exceptional Fancy Gray-Blue diamond and coloured diamond tie pin, his cat’s eye chrysoberyl Order of the Golden Fleece and a large and varied selection of gem set gentleman’s dress accessories. Tsar Ferdinand was a man of refined taste who wished to surround himself with only the most precious and beautiful objects in order to reflect his rank and add lustre to the Bulgarian throne. Effective May 20th, 2024, Sotheby's has lowered its Buyer's Premium rates and removed Overhead Premium for all categories excluding Wine & Spirits.
