Auction introduction: A Legacy of Beauty: The Collection of Sydell Miller Day Auction celebrates the harmonious interplay between art and design in this visionary collection. Comprising modern and contemporary paintings, works on paper, sculpture and design, the Day Auction celebrates the breadth of Sydell Miller's collecting pursuits, building upon the art-historical narratives and juxtapositions introduced and explored the previous evening. This wide-ranging and highly curated selection celebrates the joy that is at the core of Sydell Miller’s vision. Highlights include a large ensemble of unique works commissioned by Miller from Claude Lalanne, including Mirrors, Chandeliers, Sconces and Étagères celebrating the 'oiseau' subject, an important example of Alexander Archipenko’s Femme assise and Henry Moore’s exquisite drawing Family Group. Other defining highlights include paintings by Giorgio de Chirico and Raoul Dufy, a pair of Jean Dunand lacquer and eggshell side tables exhibited at the 1925 Paris Exposition, and an exciting group of unique works commissioned from Robert Goossens.
