Auction introduction: This September, Sotheby’s will present over 60 works from the collection of entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist David Ross. A passionate and informed collector, David Ross started buying art in the late 1990s and since then has put together one of the best collections of 20th- and 21st-century British art in private hands. Focusing on art created largely by British artists and within his lifetime, Ross’s collection spans humorous and ground-breaking British Pop artists like Peter Blake and Allen Jones, outrageous and subversive YBAs including Marc Quinn, Gary Hume and Damien Hirst, to artists and makers working today including Sean Scully, Edmund de Waal and Glenn Brown. A committed philanthropist, Ross is the Chair of the National Portrait Gallery, The University of Nottingham’s Development Committee, and a board member of the British Olympic Association. This select group of works in This is Tomorrow: Works from The David Ross Collection includes pieces across media and price points, offering something for every collector, new and established alike.
