Auction introduction: The Contemporary Curated sale offers a unique angle on contemporary acquisition. This season, Sothebys has invited Laila Gohar, a globally celebrated NY chef and food designer, to cast her astute tastemaker’s eye over the event. An artist in her own domain, her inspiration stems from her varied passions, from lace doilies to ceramic vases. The sale will open with a single-owner capsule collection including a marble bench by Jenny Holzer, a Han vase by Ai Weiwei and works on canvas by international contemporary stars such as Donna Huanca, Gregor Hildebrandt and Jim Shaw. Other highlights include works by women artists, Kiki Smith, Chiharu Shiota, Judit Reigl and Lorna Simpson. A selection of works by sought after French artists such as Bernar Venet, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Laure Prouvost and Olivier Debré will also take pride of place. Finally, Sotheby's Paris is delighted to include an impressive bronze sculpture by Igor Mitoraj. The works will be exhibited in the main galleries of Sotheby’s in Paris over one week in mid-September.
