French painter and sculptor, born in Rodez, Pierre Soulages is a representative figure of post-war abstraction, leader of Tasisism. He useed rake, scraper, and brush as tools to paint and treat light as a creative material. The works are almost always monochromatic, mostly black, and sometimes brown or cobalt blue. He is famous for the creations in black. The feature of his works is that black becomes a kind of gloss and dynamic composed color of organized light.
