Chinese French oil painter, born in Xiao County (now Suzhou of Anhui province), Chu Teh-Chun is the first Chinese academician in the French Academy of Art. He studied at the National Hangzhou College of Art, under Fang Ganmin and Wu Dayu, and settled in France in 1955. His works look like Western paintings at a distance, but Chinese paintings at a close up. The color blocks and geometric lines have a style of Abstract Expressionism; while the majestic mountains and rivers are reminiscent of the style of Chinese Northern Song Dynasty landscape painting.
