Born in Jiading County of Shanghai, Lu Yanshao was admitted to Wuxi Academy of Fine Arts in 1927 to study Chinese painting. He studied under Wang Tongyu and Feng Chaoran, a modern Chinese painter. He and Li Keran is also known as "Northern Li and Sothern Lu". He is particularly good at landscape paintings, he also paint figures and flowers, his calligraphy also has a unique style. The original "Lu's Landscape" is characterized by "clouds, water, ink blocks, and blank spaces". "Ink block" techniques are used together with blank spaces, incorporating modern aesthetic consciousness into classical techniques.
